NHS bosses in the region covering Hertfordshire have declared there will be no more closures of A&E or maternity departments.
The NHS East of England says it will 'support no further closures' in its vision statement document 'Towards the best, together'.

However, the policy comes too late for Hemel Hempstead's A&E department, which will be replaced by a urgent care cent
re next year, or full maternity services, which closed in 2002.

In a statement the NHS East of England said decisions around Hemel Hempstead Hospital would not be revisited.

"Our vision 'Towards the best, together', published in May this year, clearly states that the NHS in our region will support no further closures of A&E or maternity units," the statement says.

"The units referred to in west Hertfordshire were decisions made last year, locally in Hertfordshire, and supported by (Herts County Council's] overview and scrutiny committee.

"The vision is based on a sustainable future for all 17 acute trusts in our region delivering both A&E and maternity services.

"It does not, and will not, reopen recent consultations and decisions.

"Local people have already spoken on those matters and this vision respects those decisions.

"The services decided by the NHS for A&E and maternity in Hertfordshire trusts deliver against the promise made in our vision."

Whilst happy they are saying 'no more closures' to our A&E's etc, I have to say I simply do not believe it. Im sure they won't propose any further closures, because if they did, they would actually be managing nothing more than a series of moth-balled sites and one overcrowded failure. It is absolutely shamefull that an organisation that is supposed to support us has used the media and communications with propaganda style tactics to brutally lie in favor of bonus generating profit-before-health objectives.

Of course they won't be revisiting closure plans - why would they? This is nothing more than a false -planned- statement to 'restore' faith. We are simply not fooled. Attempts to treat people like children are simply childish and we see through them like glass.

"Local people have already spoken on those matters and this vision respects those decisions. - I suggest that comment is studied carefully because it is grossly incorrect. Yes, the local people have spoken, but in no way does a vision that simply caps off pre-assumed planned closures represent thousands of local people protesting for our hospitals. Human rights? what a joke. consultation? As a media specialist, I too could arrange any number of consultation methods until the answer I want is derived. Hmm... ask the people, have a jury, erm, focus groups.. anything in fact until the odds stack in favor of a pre-conceived idea. Shameful tactics - certainly not the vision of any person giving birth or in need of emergency health care in a town faced with significant growth - many of the houses built on the highly valuable hospital grounds.

As one of the significant majority ignored in recent consultations, I demand a revised statement from the hatchet management in our Healthcare system.

After all, simply count all responses from all areas of the consultation (conducted by known spin doctors, or consent manufacturers...) and the actual number of people choosing to retain services outweig
