Spirit of Tring is back, book early for discounts

WEEKEND music extravaganza Spirit of Tring returns for the third year running in June to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Tickets are now on sale for the spectacular, not-for-profit music festival staged by award-winning Tring-based business service experts Grass Roots.

The 2011 event attracted 5,000 visitors for two days of pop and classical music and has picked up three national awards in recognition of its contribution to the local community.

This year the Saturday show will kick off at 5pm with the winners of Play Live, a local youth band competition created by Grass Roots for last year’s production.

The winning bands will have come through an X Factor style judging process where they will need to impress a panel of judges in order to win the right to appear in front of thousands.

Hugely popular Soulfish, who return to the festival by popular demand, will then take to the stage to warm-up the crowd with their fabulous high energy renditions of all those favourite soul classics.

The party atmosphere will continue with the main act of the event, Cool Britannia. Stars from the London stage will perform a West End style celebration of great British rock and pop from throughout the Queen’s 60 year reign.

Get ready to sing along to The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Status Quo, Take That, Queen and Coldplay with a firework finale rounding off the evening.

On Sunday it’s the turn of the English National Orchestra who will deliver a special Queen’s Diamond Jubilee version of the Great British Proms.

Star conductor Jae Alexander will lead the orchestra through all the traditional proms’ classics and there will be a welcome return visit from an original Second World War Spitfire which will take to the skies in a spectacular fly-by, choreographed in time with the music, above

Grass Roots chairman David Evans, who is also the brains behind the festival, is looking forward to putting on another great show.

He said: “When I gave birth to the event in 2010 it was intended to be a one-off celebration of my company’s 30th birthday!

“It was so well received I made the decision to do it again in 2011. It is just one part of our support for the community, support that has been running for 25 years.

“Can we do it again? My bank balance says no, but my heart says yes!”

Tickets can be purchased at www.spirit-of-tring.com with discounts if you buy before the end of January. Tickets are also available from box offices in Tring at Beechwood Fine Foods on Frogmore Street, or from the Grass Roots reception at the office on Station Road.
