Powerful story told on slavery
Dacorum Fairtrade bring in a hard hitting play about slavery to send out the message that unfair trade in developing countries is as bad as the oppression of slavery.
During Dacorum Fairtrade Fortnight, from Monday, February 26 to March 11, educational theatre company Fairgame Theatre will present its dramatic and moving piece, One For Me, None For You.
The play presented this Saturday (February 24) at St Mary's Church, High Street, Hemel Hempstead, takes place in the bicentennial year of the abolition of slavery. 200 years since the passing of laws abolishing the slave trade across the British Empire should be a time to celebrate and congratulate ourselves.
But a mysterious stranger lurking in the background has a different story to tell, but do people want to listen and is someone intent on silencing history?
Francoise Hendersen of Dacorum Fairtrade said: "We decided to communicate with people through theatre as it is a powerful way to send a message. And we want people to make the connection between slavery and the heritage of our contemporary legacy."
