Berkhamsted Bafta-winner misses out on Oscar for work on film

A Bafta-winning production designer missed out on an Oscar for her work on Les Miserables as the award instead went to Lincoln.

The accolade was handed out during a prestigious LA awards ceremony last night – where hopeful Eve Stewart, of Kitsbury Road, Berkhamsted, waited to see if she had won.

The 51-year-old, who designed all the sets for the Tom Hooper-directed film adaptation of hit musical Les Miserables, was nominated alongside Anna Lynch-Robinson, who decorated all of Eve’s sets.

They were up against rivals who worked on Anna Karenina, The Hobbit, Life of Pi and Lincoln for the production design Oscar.

The award went to Lincoln production designer Rick Carter and set decorator Jim Erickson – but Eve and Anna did win a Bafta for their work earlier this month.

Les Miserables, though set in France and based on French writer Victor Hugo’s epic novel, published in 1862, was shot largely in Britain. One of the locations Eve chose for its filming was the Ashridge Estate. Lincoln was shot in Virginia, USA.
