A look into an artist's mind
ROAD to Emmaus is just one of the paintings, which art lovers will be able to view at The Old Town Hall, in Hemel Hempstead.
This piece from the latest exhibition, From The Pages Of My Sketchbook, by Berkhamsted artist Gabrielle Thompson depicts one of her favourite stories from the Bible.
Gabrielle said: "This piece depicts the story when the two men, who are on their way to Emmaus, encounter Jesus," she explained.
"I wanted to get it in painted form. It's really powerful, yet a simple story. One part that particularly struck me was when the men say 'our hearts were burning inside of us as we spoke to Jesus. I wanted to capture that with the blues, in the painting, and their contrast to the orange."
Many of the 25 abstract paintings, which will feature in the forthcoming exhibition are born from Gabrielle's faith.
The 27-year-old, who lives in Cross Oak Road, and works as a freelance graphic designer, uses a mish mash assortment of media to help her portray a message visually.
It could be through a watercolour collage, to old keys stuck on a canvas, or a monoprint with gold dust sprinkled on top.
"My work would probably come into the category of commercial abstract, but at the heart of it is an expression of what I see and think and hear," she explained.
The collection of contemporary paintings captures the excitement she feels when she looks back through her sketch books. The paintings in it are all recent creations by the artist.
The exhibition will be open for four weeks.
