The Bovingdon Players are to perform Michael Frayn's Alarms and Excursions, a laugh-out-loud comedy which asks whether modern technology has made life any easier.
The nine-strong cast of local amateur performers will be treading the boards in in this 1998 classic at The Memorial Hall, in Bovingdon, from May 22 to 24.
Alarms and Excursions is a collection of short plays that examines what happens when modern technology goes wrong. The opening play is set during a dinner party doomed by trendy gadgets, another piece highlights the idiocies of flight safety demonstrations and the evening closes with a comedy of missed messages.
Director Robert Peacock hopes the evening will strike a chord with the audience: "Like most people I have a house full of machines going beep or going wrong, and many of the scenes in Alarms & Excursions will be horribly familiar to everyone.
"If you've ever tried in vain to switch off the alarm clock and then discovered in fact the phone is ringing, you'll know exactly what the characters are going through."
