Running the Silk Road, a new play by Olivier-nominated writer Paul Sirett, will be on at Watford Palace Theatre, from Tuesday, June 17 until Saturday June 21.

Directed by David Tse Ka-Shing, the play is set in the year of the Beijing Olympics.

It consists of a group of friends from London setting themselves an epic challenge to run the ancient Silk Road trading route to China carrying an alternative Olympic Flame.

Once on the road, complications and conflicts test friendships and soon threaten their chances of success.

The play draws on many myths contained in classic 2000-year-old Chinese texts telling of floods, droughts and destruction of the earth.

These are interspersed throughout the modern text and spoken in Mandarin and Chinese and accompanied by acrobatics performed by Chinese gymnasts from Beijing.

Tickets are available from the box office at 01923 225671.
