What they do: Provides a forum in which people with an interest in gardening or growing their own fruit and veg can discuss relevant issues. The association is also working at having allotments in Grovehill reinstated to meet local
demand.
Who it helps: People in Hemel Hempstead who have an allotment, are on a waiting list or just have a love for gardening.
Facts:
- The association was formed this year by residents who discovered the town's waiting lists for allotment sites ran into hundreds, due to the trend for healthy and organic eating.
- Members receive magazines, seed discounts, advice and guidance from the national society, and cite home grown produce, a local committee and an 'outdoor gym' as its main attractions.
- Subscription to the non profit group is just £5.
How you can help: If you would like to join the society please send your full name, address, contact details and location of your allotment (if you have one) with a cheque for £5 to Hemel Hempstead Allotment and Leisure Gardeners' Association, 17 Washington Avenue, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP2 6AA.
