THE Boxmoor man who has taken over at the top of a national charity which is overhauling its image has spoken of his hopes for the future.

Paul Breckell, 41, has been named as the new chief executive of national charity Action on Hearing Loss, previously known as the Royal National Institute for the Deaf.

He has been with the organisation for five years is currently the managing director, corporate resources.

Charity chairman Gerald Corbett said: “We are delighted to have been able to recruit someone with Paul’s exceptional ability and experience to lead Action on Hearing Loss through its next stage of strategic development.

“As well as being committed to the cause, Paul has huge experience of the sector and a great deal of knowledge about the organisation.

“Paul brings with him a realistic, intelligent view of future challenges and a safe pair of hands to steer Action on Hearing Loss in this changing world.”

Paul takes the helm at a time when the charity begins to build its strategy for the next five years.

He said: “I am delighted to be leading the charity at such an exciting time in our development and look forward to staff and supporters’ input to this process.

“I feel very passionate about our biomedical research work into finding a cure for hearing loss and tinnitus, and our excellent local service delivery which supports thousands of people with hearing loss throughout the UK.

“I want Action on Hearing Loss to have a vibrant a passionate national voice, defending the equal rights of people who are deaf or have hearing loss, and I would like to see us grow our international networks, bringing us more profile for our biomedical research, but also enabling us to share learning and best practice.”

Paul Breckell replaces Jackie Ballard, who has been appointed chief executive of Womankind, and begins his new role later this month.
