Natwest to axe branch on Maylands

Finance giant NatWest has confirmed that it is closing its Maylands Business Park branch because of falling customer numbers.
But neighbouring branches run by Barclays and Lloyds are staying put, say their rivals.
The branch in Wood Lane End, Hemel Hempstead, will shut its doors on June 10 and its three full time staff will move to other centres.
A spokesman for NatWest said: “We have taken the difficult decision to close our Maylands branch as we have seen a sharp decrease in demand.
“Customers can still get a full branch offering at our nearby Hemel Hempstead branch. We also have a range of other options that our customers can use to access their accounts. These include mobile phone applications, online and telephone banking services and the use of any Post Office to pay bills, withdraw cash and check balances.”
Gaddesden Row business owner Beverley Gilder said the nearest alternative branches – at Bank Court in Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted – are not as convenient.
“You won’t be able to park for free,” she said. “You can’t park in Bank Court any more unless you are disabled.”
Bosses at neighbouring banks Barclays and Lloyds have reassured customers that they are not leaving.
A spokesman for Lloyds said: “There are no plans to close the branch – indeed the lease still has decades left to run.”
