I worked with Sue Brown at Barclays Bank, Swan Court, Hemel Hempstead in the early 1960s and we became good friends. I lost contact with her after she emigrated with her family to Australia during the same decade. I have recently unearthed an old stamp collectors album containing a variety of interesting stamps which once belonged to Sue and would dearly love to be able to return it to her after all these years. I remember she had a married sister, possibly called Jane, who remained in Hemel after Sue emigrated with her parents. If anyone is able to put me in touch with Sue I would be delighted. Unfortunately I do not have any more information on her.

Linda I knew Linda in Hemel a long time ago. She was my first real girlfriend - I thought that we were getting on ok ... then suddenly, chop. You were entitled to go out with whoever you wanted, and equally entitled to say "no" if that was what you wanted. I would have to get used to the idea - there didn't seem much point in arguing. You didn't say why, and I didn't ask, but I've often wondered what had gone wrong. I now have two daughters - one of those is a Linda - and a grandson now older than you were then. My wife and I have had a pretty happy time together but December 2007 was a low point. Our daughters had given me heartacre during the year and my wife was threatening to leave if I upset the girls any more. Trying to sleep while my world seemed to be falling apart was difficult and I thought of you Linda. I vividly remembered your "No more" and your "No" to South Pacific. I thought back to our trip to Cambridge, and Ivinghoe Beacon, and .. , and ..., ... and then I remembered you saying "Did I realise that we had been going out for 12 weeks?". My first thought was "What am I supposed to say here?" - then I thought "I've enjoyed it Linda. I hope that we go on forever". Then my head exploded - that sounded dangerously like a proposal - I got scared, I panicked, I said something that I now realise was stupid, stupid, and cruel. You went quiet. I am sorry, sorry, sorry Linda. I was already feeling low and realising that I might have caused our split, even if it has taken me 46 years to work that out, just added to my woes. I lost a lot of sleep thinking about you Linda in the early part of 2008. I've nearly got over it now, but I still think about you, and I'd love to hear from you. I don't want to upset any applecarts Linda, yours or mine. I promise to behave. How are you? How has life treated you? love David xxxx Please, please send me an email to david@lindalinda.co.uk

Forty Two years ago this Christmas a family welcomed me into their home - Spencers Green, a property outside Tring. I met their daughter Diana Tootill (stepfather's name Openshaw), her brother Simon, boyfriend Michael. She and I met while travelling in New Zealand, I am originally from Winnipeg Canada - we met again in Australia and later I joined her family for Christmas 1966. Her mother owned antique shops in the area and always did a Hotpot for Christmas and invited all of the staff. I would dearly love to re contact Diana - she was a dear and special friend, and am hoping that someone in the area is in touch with her - I realise it is a long time ago - I last wrote the family in 1973 when I returned to Australia - have been here ever since.

I am trying to trace an old friend who moved from Washington, Tyne & Wear in the 70's. I don't know if your paper runs anything like this but her name is Joan Atherton she will be 63 years old and knew me as Linda Annan (nee Anderson). I met Joan in Spain, she was on holiday with 2 girlfriends and I was with my friend Norma. We became good friends and she was my bridesmaid when I married in 1968 and then godmother to my daughter Melanie and son Tony. I have thought about her a lot over the years and often wonder how her life turned out after we lost touch. I hope she sees this or someone who knows her. Thanking you in anticipation.

I am trying to reach an old school friend who I had heard moved to Hemel Hempstead. Her name is Eileen Clements and she left Romford County High School in Essex back in 1966. If anyone knows of her whereabouts now I would love to get in touch again. My name then…Susan Small. Please email pswood@sympatico.ca

Thanks in anticipation.

I (originally from Canada) am writing in the hopes of locating an old friend who used to live in your area. I spent Christmas 1966 with the Openshaw Family at Spencers Green just outside Tring. The mother owned more than one antique shop in towns adjacent to Tring. There were two children Diana and Simon Tootill (stepfather was Mr Openshaw). Diana and I met whilst travelling in New Zealand, met again in Australia and then when I left to travel on to England in late December they invited me to spend Christmas with them. Since returning to Australia in 1973 I have lost touch with Diana and would dearly love to track her down. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
