Trade tools still left unclaimed

Victims of power tool theft sare being urged to contact the police as more than 150 items recovered from a London house raid remain unclaimed.

Around 40 people turned up at an open day at Hemel Hempstead’s Combe Street station to view the seized items, which include angle-grinders, chainsaws, drills and hedge trimmers, but none were claimed.

Det Con Peter Spiers said: “We have a large number of powertools and professional-quality gardening equipment.

“My guess is they belong to tradesmen, as they could possibly have been stolen from vans or building sites.

“These items could come from all across Herts or even other neighbouring forces. I have never dealt with a job like this where so much equipment has been found.”

The items were discovered during an arrest, and Mr Spiers hopes a better picture of the case will emerge as more owners are traced.

However, reuniting owners with their tools can be difficult without any distinguishing marks, as most of the items are of the Stihl brand.

Anyone who has had items of this kind stolen should contact Mr Spiers or Det Sup Clare Tattam on the non-emergency number 101.
