Still no firm date for major roadworks

Highways bosses now say that major roadworks which are planned for Apsley will take place ‘within the next couple of months’.

The HeraldExpress reported last week that motorists were left confused after a public notice informed readers that roadworks, which would see the closure of Hemel Hempstead’s busy London Road, would take place over a seven day period between Monday, March 18 and Sunday. March 31.

It also said that parts of Berkhamsted’s London Road would be closed for resurfacing and a stretch of Hemel Hempstead’s Link Road would be shut off for pothole repairs.

Herts Highways spokesman Tom Shipp said: “Highways say the dates are indicative and works won’t take place between March 18 and 31. I think the best way to view the statutory notice is it’s a legal requirement but only really loose guidance for the public. Two weeks before the scheduled work starts, letters will go out to residents.”
