A MAN’S ambitions for the year ahead mean he will be the face of a national charity’s advertising campaign.

Christopher Day, who has learning difficulties, is one of the people to be chosen as the new face of Mencap.

The 55-year-old entered the search for people to front the good cause’s New Year, New Me advertising campaign.

Entrants were asked to write to judges telling them what their goals are for the year ahead.

Christopher, left, who is a member of drama and performance art group The Pioneer Spirits and will take to the stage as a pantomime dame at the sandpit Theatre in St Albans this month, told how he wants to perform at the famous London Palladium.

He also aims to continue to be happy, positive and cheerful and would like to secure a job placement or training.

Christopher is one of nine winners who will front an online video that will be displayed on the charity’s website and social networking sites.

Mencap spokesman Nzinga Cotton said: “It will feature Christopher talking about what he wants to achieve during the year.

“The idea is to show disabled people in a positive light as well as inspiring other people to make plans and New Year resolutions.”

The video was launched by Mencap this week.

It is not the first time that Christopher, who lives in Vicarage Lane, Bovingdon, has won an award.

In June 2011 he bagged the Keith Rumble Award, which celebrates the lives and personalities of people with differences and learning disabilities.

The accolade was presented by The Pioneer Spirits, and is given in memory of one of its founder members.
