Kings Langley School student’s poem helps raise awareness of domestic abuse campaign
Herts Police domestic abuse campaign True Love? Students were invited to write radio ads for the campaign and the winning ones are being aired on Jack FM.
Teenagers have been working with police to raise awareness of the impact domestic abuse has on young people.
Students were invited to write radio scripts for adverts to promote the True Love? campaign.
More than 200 teenagers entered and among the six winners was Kings Langley School Year 10 student Cree-Savannah Montague, who impressed judges with her poem.
Det Supt Mick Hanlon said: “We have been so impressed by the really excellent quality of the ‘True Love?’ entries we received.”
Police have put the spotlight on young victims and perpetrators of domestic violence to highlight that it is not just an adult issue.
Students were asked to write the radio scripts when police community support officers visited schools in Herts to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
Other winners alongside Cree-Savannah were from Watford. They got to visit the Jack FM studios in Knebworth, which broadcast the adverts during December, and also met police officers at Herts Constabulary’s headquarters.

Here is Cree-Savannah’s poem:
He loves me
He loves me not
He hugs me
Then he punches me in the gut
He calls me pretty
Then says I’m fat
He’ll stroke my face
Then give it a slap
He says I have freedom
Then takes it away
I want to tell someone
But what would I say?
I thought it was true love
I thought it was real
But someone like that
How do they make you feel?
So put a stop to the violence
Don’t be scared to talk
To come out of the silence
I made a change
And now life is great
Say something
Before it’s too late.
It’s not just adults who are victims of relationship abuse. If you’ve been affected, we’re here to listen. Visit www.hertssunflower.org or call 08 088 088 088. It’s free to call and the line is open between 10am and 10pm, Monday to Friday.
