The Salvation Army Hemel Hempstead
Location: Waterhouse Street, Hemel Hempstead
What they do:
The Salvation Army organises, promotes and fundraises at activities and services across the borough and is an involved member of the community.
It also supports the work of the emergency services by providing refreshments, shelter and counselling at major incidents. After the Buncefield Depot explosion in 2005 the charity accommodated 40 evacuees overnight and its emergency response vehicle served food and drink to frontline emergency services personnel.
Who it helps:
Money raised goes to help the homeless, needy families and other marginalised individuals and communities.
Facts:
The Salvation Army is an international Christian church and registered charity working in 111 countries and is the largest and most diverse provider of social welfare in the world.
From September 14 to 28, Salvation Army volunteers in Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted will be on the streets and knocking on doors to raise money for the church and charity's social and community work. Anyone can sign up to help this campaign.
How you can help:
People can become involved in all sorts of ways, through volunteering with fundraising initiatives, attending church services and helping with local activities. The charity is looking for volunteers to deliver and collect envelopes in a door-to-door collection or take part in collecting at a local station.
