Stretched to the limit

THE PACE is hotting up for Christmas with most organisations stretched to the limit covering festivities and fundraising.

IF you can possibly spare an hour or so in these busy times, Home-Start Dacorum is still looking for volunteers to shake a tin on Saturday, December 6 at the Riverside Shopping Centre. The event will last all day and it would be good if volunteers could offer to do shifts of one to two hours or more if they wish. And fancy dress is encouraged to bring a festive air to the occasion!

Home-Start Dacorum offers friendship and informal support to parents with young children, so that every child can have a good start in life. It covers Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Tring and Kings Langley and the surrounding villages.

AND please don't forget the fun-filled Santa Dash on Sunday, December 7, in aid of the Berkhamsted-based Hospice of St Francis

The Dash is a 2.5 mile run or walk through Hemel Hempstead town centre, starting at 10am with lots of participants in Santa dress.

But marshals are needed between 9.15am and midday to ensure the safe running. There is a lower age limit of 16 years.

The Hospice is dear to the hearts of many people and provides specialist palliative care and respite for terminally ill people.

TRING Beavers are still in need of helpers for their pool sessions at Tring Sportspace on Tuesday afternoons from 1.20pm to 2.20pm.

The club assists disabled people to exercise in the water and encourage them to develop swimming skills.

Help is needed at the poolside and in the changing area. The club exists for people in Tring who want to improve their mobility and achieve better health through exercises.

There are no gender restrictions, the lower age limit is 16 years and no particular skills required, but helpers should be able to swim in shallow water, without being especially strong.

THE WRVS at Hemel Hempstead Hospital needs helpers either in the hospital shop or in the tea bar. They also provide trolley facilities to patients and visitors. Assistance is needed particularly on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.30am to midday.

In the tea bar visitors can stop and have have a cuppa. It can be quite busy and volunteers must be able to work a till and 'cash up'.

Volunteers work on a rota basis and profits made are given to

the hospital.
