AS remarkable runner Matthew Loddy nears the end of his incredible ‘100 marathons in 100 days’ challenge this weekend, celebrities have been queuing up to offer him their support.

The 46-year-old managing director of Framework Scaffolding Contractors in Northbridge Road, Berkhamsted, began his journey in Lagos, Portugal, on Saturday, January 14.

Matthew, who lives in Watford Road, Kings Langley, has already run right across Europe to Portsmouth, and will today run his 96th marathon to reach Southampton.

He has been rushed to hospital three times, suffered an infection that meant he couldn’t run for three days – but he’s still on schedule to complete the ton on the London Marathon course on Sunday.

He said this week: “The low points of my journey have not been the pains of the injuries – but the ones that have threatened failure.

“Pain, I can cope with. I’ve got injuries that will probably stay with me for months, years and possibly longer.

“But whatever happens, happens. I don’t worry about what’s going to happen to my body after this.”

Matthew is running in memory of former colleague Phil Latham, of Latimer Close, Hemel Hempstead, who died from cancer aged 36 in 2010.

He is raising money for The Hospice of St Francis in Northchurch, which looked after Phil, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
