Can you fill in blanks about punk tragedy?

editorial image

A researcher digging in to the punk rock scene of the 1970s is hoping that readers with long memories will be able to help her.

Diane Hungate of Sandhurst is particularly interested in bands which were active in North London and Watford, including one called The Bears.

She said: “They were one of the more popular and upcoming bands from Watford, and their lead singer was a young man named Mike (Mick) North who was a student at West Herts College.”

But Mike and a friend from Hemel Hempstead, Pete Dalyrimple, both died in a tragic motorbike accident off Park Road in Hemel Hempstead in September 1977. Pete - also known as Pete Perspex – was a punk musician, too, with the band the Paper Doilies.

An inquest into the two deaths was held in Hemel Hempstead in March the following year.

If anyone remembers the band, or can fill in the blanks about the accident, they can contact Diane by email at llwydcoed@gmail.com.
