Ken Barnes gave an interesting talk Looking after a Palace. He was a trained carpenter and meeting the right person gave him the opportunity to work on historical buildings.

His first job was building a new gallery at Buckingham Palace. From then on he had work in Middle East palaces, and for King Hussein of Jordan.

He built a new cupola for Hampton Court Palace, the existing one had lasted for 500 years, and finally he was given the whole upkeep of Windsor Castle keeping everything structurally sound.

Sadly a horrific fire broke out at the castle. But with lots of help all the treasures were rescued apart from one large painting too big to move. A fascinating story brought about by his first assignment. An evening much enjoyed.
