The March meeting heard Mark Hassall, FSA, of the Institute of Archaeology, University College London, speak on 'Trajan's Column and the Dacian Wars'.

After the Colosseum,Trajan's Column is perhaps the best known and recognised monument in Rome but, as Mark pointed out, to see it you do need not go to Rome – there is a splendid full-size cast of it in the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington.

The April meeting of the Society was the 36th Annual General Meeting, followed by a talk from Paul Booth, of Oxford Archaeology, on 'The Archaeology of the M1 Widening Scheme'.

Further details may be had from the Programme Secretary, Mrs J. Sparks. Telephone 07710 278036.
