Valerie Day came to give members advice on planting hanging baskets and containers.

Unfortunately, it was too early in the planting year for her to actually demonstrate with suitable plants. However, she was able to show us how to line various types of hanging baskets and gave advice on containers.

She emphasised strongly that all containers must have drainage holes in the bottom and should be stood on pieces of tile etc, and not directly on the ground.

She also gave advice as to the best types of compost to use - knowledge gained from her years working at Rochfords Nurseries.

Members were reminded about a picnic at Ashridge on August 16. Our next meeting is on May 9.
