At the meeting on April 2 our chairman introduced the speaker for the evening, Francois Henderson, whose subject was Fairtrade.

He had a large display of goods to show which were being sold under Fairtrade and we were able to purchase some of these such as chocolate, tea, coffee and honey.

It is vital that these packages are made attractive to catch the public eye. Fairtrade Price started with coffee from Peru which is grown on the mountains and when disaster struck this area Fairtrade Premium was there to help. Fairtrade stepped in to help the cotton farmers in India. M&S and Debenhams have cotton garments which is Fairtrade cotton. South Africa produce grapes which they slowly dry to produce sultanas for Fairtrade. They do receive support from Oxfam and Water Aid.

The next meeting is May 7, which is our 56th birthday party and we will have a buffet supper with entertainment. Members are asked to pay £1 for the evening.
