Generations of school children will be sad to hear the wolf whistling parrot who lived in Woods Garden Centre has died.

George the Parrot, who was famed for imitating police cars, cats and ducks, died of cancer last Monday (October 15) after more than 20 years in Berkhamsted.

The African Grey joined Woods in 1984 but it is not known how he came to the shop. Staff believe he was 30 years old when he died.

The talented prankster could count to ten, meow and impersonate a range of sounds.

John Evans, manager of the garden centre, said he would be missed.

"Everybody knew him and most of the children grew up with him. He was part of the family."
