A Berkhamsted day Centre dozens of elderly and disabled residents depend on has been put up for sale.

Controversial plans to close the Manor Street service and send its members to centres across the borough, caused fury when it was announced at the end of last year.

Now the site, which includes the former Adult Care Services building, has been put on the market.

A spokesman for Herts County Council, Andrew Dawson, said: "We are trying to handle the situation at Manor Street as sensitively as possible.

"We are developing alternative services. No-one will be moved from Manor Street until an appropriate alternative is in place.

"The building has been put on the market, but any interested parties are not visiting the building during operating hours."
