A grieving woman is furious after a necklace was snatched from her mother's grave.
Jackie Payne made the discovery on Bank Holiday Monday when she visited Kingshill Cemetery in Berkhamsted.
She had placed the gold chain which has a small heart hanging from it on the grave's cross around two weeks beforehand.
Miss Payne, 49, of Ridgeway in Berkhamsted, said: "I'm disgusted and really angry about this. I want the person to know I hope they cannot sleep and that they feel guilty.
"How could they do it? How could anyone steal off a grave?"
Her mother Florrie Payne, who lived in the same road as her, died aged 72 in March this year.
Miss Payne said: "She was very well known and loved.
"I'm really missing my mum and now this happens. It is heartbreaking.
"I'm disgusted and really angry about this."
She is planning to report the theft from the cemetery, off Kingshill Way, to police but has been unable to do so yet due to health problems.
Herts Police crime prevention officer for the Dacorum area, David Mahon, said: "We would advise anyone visiting the cemetery to be aware of the risks of leaving items of some value on gravestones.
"We would advise them not to do it, particularly if the items are of sentimental value."
