The 500-word short story contest was launched last month as a community
initiative by author Alison Baverstock; Berkhamsted's Waterstone's; the library and The Gazette.
Prizes for the winners include book vouchers and the overall winning entry wi
ll be published in the Berkhamsted and Tring Gazette.
Tests revealed Charlie, aged 11, has the writing skills of an
18-year-old and he entered the competition independently.
The Berkhamsted Collegiate student is currently concocting a story to submit and has always been a keen writer.
When he was just three he would dictate stories to his mother and when he was old enough to write himself, there was no stopping him.
The young storyteller has also had his work published.
Last year Charlie won a magazine competition in Bedfordshire where he lives.
The magazine, Living Locally, was so impressed with the youngster's work that Charlie was asked to write a six-part series that is being
published monthly.
"I just love writing and using my imagination," Charlie admitted.
Charlie's proud mother Elaine said: "I think it's wonderful. If he's happy, I'm happy.
"All children should be and should feel valued. "Many have gifted talents that should be nurtured and celebrated," she added.
