Air cadets have officially moved into a new headquaters.

For the past six years Berkhamsted's 1113 Squadron Air Training Corps used a classroom at Ashlyns School to hold their meetings.

But now they have a new base, a specially built hut on Ashlyns School's grounds, which was officially opened by the
new regional commandant Group Captain, Brett Morell, in his first official visit to the Herts and Bucks Wing on June 30.

The Mayor of Berkhamsted, Councillor David Coillins, attended as did Ashlyns head teacher Richard Dalziel and various other dignitaries.

Flight Lieutenant Porter said: "The event went extremely well. I'm grateful for all the help provided by the committee, staff and cadets with out whom this event would never have happened. I'm also pleased to be in the new building as we have been without a hut for so long."

The evening, which was also open to the public, had a good turn out and 12 young people have since joined the squadron as junior cadets.

During the second half of the night the guests were invited to walk around the squadron and view displays organised by the cadets and staff. The civilian committee put on a barbecue, drinks and a raffle for the guests.

The Wing Commander also gave each cadet certificates and awards they had gained during the year.
