MORE Pictures from the Gazette's first staff photopgrapher John Child in 1962 and early 1963

Last week's feature included shots of the filming of Z Cars in Hemel. The picture above shows the town's real police force taking delivery of their brand new patrol car! The picture is in the yard of the then police station (the building still stands, by the Leighton Buzzard Road roundabout and is being converted into flats.)

Boxmoor Station (Hemel Hempstead) got a new stationm,aster in January 1963. He was Mr Evans, pictured and in those days there was still a stationmaster's house and a row of cottages for the porters.

The house and cottages were demolished in 1967 when the station was modernised
