As part of Hemeltoday's series of features to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Hemel Hempstead becoming a new town we have devised a series of picture quizzes.

It centres on new town scenes and buildings that have either already gone, or have changed greatly.

A popular shop in the early new town days, what's here now?

Rebuilt in the early new town days, this building kept the same name for many years, then it was changed now it's gone.

What were the two names?

Where were these youngsters in 1963?

Quiz Answers
Pictures 1: The opening of the Look Garage on the corner of Coterells. Screaming Lord Sutch was the VIP to do the opening.

Picture 2: The clock could be seen on Marlowes and was on AlbionHouse in King Harry Street which was demolished.

Picture 3: Gadebury Old People's Home.

Picture 4: The building you can see behind the Hartridge's front became the HQ of the Hemel Hempstead Building Society and when that merged withalarger society it became the Society Arms pub. You can just see a glimpse of the building on the extreme left which was the 16/21youth club for several years.


Picture 5: Ye Olde Projectionist pub which for many years was the Heath Park Pub. Rebuilt in the early new town years on the site of the original Heath Park.
