I have seen the Bovingdon fire service in action and they are pre meditated fire killers and life savers in every way possible. Please do not let this massive world wide exposed fire become tommorows chip paper. If people lost lives in the incident would the world news jump on it? The fire service needs the public to stand up for it or loose it. Get on to the m.p of the area, email them

We truly thought that the whole of Hemel was at risk after the explosion. The fire service did an incredible job in containing the fire - I dread to think what would have happened if nearby fields and woodland had caught alight. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You are all extremely brave

Name: Michaela Address: Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead Views: Dad/Mick. We want you to know that we think you're so brave and we're very proud of you for last week. You're too modest, it may be your job, but while everyone else is being evacuated, you're there, in the middle of it all. We're sure the whole of Hemel will agree that you and your colleagues are very special and are all true heroes.
Name: Morgan Address: Gadbridge Views: I would just like to say a big thanks to the fire dept. for there brave efforts putting out the fire. The fire service is under appreciated but they are the first people to put their neck on the line when things blow up. The way the news reported the efforts of the fire man (saying they were underprepared) was disgusting as i didnt see any of them running to help out so they should keep their mouths shut. This should be taken into consideration the next time their wages are revised. I hope you guys get a good xmas bonus.
Name: Sheila McKill Address: 45A Chapel Street Hemel Hempstead Views: I think the emergency services were brilliant and they should all be commended highly for what they had to face and deal with, this could have been much worse but for them. I would also like to mention their families, although they are probably used to what there love ones are up against while doing their duty, they must have been very scared knowing what they were up against, as you could not get away from it because of the T.V and press.
Name: Kerry Kenny Address: Bennetts End Road Views: Great appreciation goes out from our home to all those who helped during this time, though not greatly affected by the disaster, I can onlyimagine what some families went through. Wishing all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Name: John Hawkins Address:Oak Avenue Shirley Surrey Views: Surely all right minded people would of course thank all the emergency services for what they did at Buncefield. Especially the Firemen who put out the fires. Perhaps those who criticised sould be invited to attend (Heaven forbid) the next great conflagration that occurs and I hope someone could explain to them, what a negative effect on moral, their comments can have.
Name: Mike Radmore Address:Fishery Road, Boxmoor Views: I wouldn't/couldn't do your job for all the tea in China but I'm VERY glad that you do it and do it so well. A big thank you for all your efforts.
Name: Tony Waite Address: Bronte Crescent Woodhall Farm Hemel Hempstead Views: The firefighters were absolutely fantastic. I have such admiration for them. Just looking at the photographs of the massive infernos and the scale of the resulting destruction has brought home exactly what they faced. And yet they brought everything safely under control and in as short a time as possible. I live just one mile away and that seemed more than close enough when the tanks were exploding and the fires were raging, yet the firefighters had to stay within yards of the fires in order to control them! Obviously, as in all major incidents, lessons will be learned from the Buncefield explosion, but let's praise the firefighters and the rest of the emergency services for a brilliant job.
Name: Adrian Address: Hunters Oak Views: Thanks to all the emergency services for their excellent work at Buncefield
Name: Sarah Yeomans Address: Datchet Close Woodhall Farm Hemel Hempstead Views: Thank you so much to everyone involved in the extinguishing of the flames at Buncefield. You are heroes in all our eyes. You have no idea how reassuring it is that the fires are out even if we still have a long way to go to returning to some kind of normality. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.

We dont realise how fantastic you all are until we really need you, you did yourselves proud. It really gets to us when the people slate the fact that the emergency services were not prepared for this...who was??? I drive past the depot everyday on my way to work and you never expect it to happen!. Well done you were all fantastic and did Hemel proud, congratulations for such a fab job - and dont listen to what the papers/media say - we appreciate you. Congrats again and a huge thank you. x

Name: jeff payne Address: anchor lane boxmoor Views: Neither my extended family, most of whom live in Adeyfield/Redbourn road or my immediate family here were injured or evacuated thank goodness, I have lost my place of work (Kodak, 3 com building)for now but can continue to work at home. I would like to add to the thanks to all who supported the town on the 11th December. The account I read from the employee of Tesco is quite moving and it does show that it does not matter whether you are a Fire fighter putting your life in danger or someone modestly making sure everybody gets what they need, there is a personal sense of duty out there that fortunately has not died.
Name: Keith & Valerie Saunders Address: Howard Road Newmarket, ON Canada Views: The first we heard about the fire was a phone call at 9 am Sunday (Ontario Time) from our friends on Wood Lane End. Just as I was speaking to them, Hemel Hempstead came over our radio, so we knew this was something big! We followed all the news on the BBC World Service and the internet. We have a lot of friends and relations in Hemel and all are ok. A big thank you to all the emergency services for outstanding dedication to their duties. A JOB WELL DONE!!
Name: lynne tovey Address: Berkeley Square Hemel Hempstead Views: I would like to say on behalf of myself and my family, a big THANK YOU to all the emergency services for their prompt actions, and care of our community, words cannot convey the gratitude and admiration I feel for the bravery & dedication of our fire crews who did such a fantastic job in such difficult & dangerous conditions. As for the comments that criticised our fire crews, these people should be proud of the crews and give praise where its due not criticise. I wonder did they offer to help the crews that must have been so tired and exhausted."well done guys"
Name: Andrew Stewart Address: Waterditchampton Wilton Salisbury Views: There is an assumption that the emergency services will cope. Name:Martin Daines & Sandra Carter, Address: 30 The Horsehoe' Leverstock Green Views: We would like to thanks everyone who worked so hard in very difficult conditions to extinguish this horrendous Fire. It just shows how well the emergency services can all work together when there is a major crisis of this magnitude. We find it despicable that some of the houses have been looted and it shows how low people can be. We would like to thank our Member of Parliament, Mike Penning, for being there and taking the interest he did with the problems facing Hemel Hempstead. It's times like this when we are proud to be British.
Name: Sian Scarborough Address: Frome Square Hemel Hempstead Views: Where do I start? Just don't know how to really put across how grateful we are to you for all your hard work and efforts, to put the fire out and make Hemel safe again. I was a Special Constable a few years ago and we all knew how devastating it would be for Buncefield to explode, our thoughts were then that it would take most of Hemel with it. Thankfully a lot of people made sure (as well as fate making it a Sunday) that we were not at as higher risk as we initially thought as people put their lives at risk to ensure our safety. Thank you so much to every one involved.
Name: Paul Alexander Edmonds Address: Chartridge Lane,Chesham Views: To the firefighters I would like to say how I admire your incredible bravery at fighting what was the biggest fire in peacetime Europe.Like thousands of others I could see the plume of black smoke rising up into the clouds and could only guess as to what was happening on the ground at Buncefield.I was hoping that none of those fighting the fire would be hurt and I understand, apart from some minor injuries, this to be the case.Once again Well Done for doing such a brilliant in extinguishing the fire.

Name: James Esom Address: Helston Grove, Hemel Hempstead Views: Thank you very much !!
Name: Robert Wade & Nicola Beckley Address: Halsey Drive Hemel Hempstead Views: We would just like to say that the services we all depend on so highly demonstrated why there is such a need within any given community. The depot and surrounding area was in complete havock following the explosion and yet with everything stacked against them the true heroes of the modern day put themselves between the community and the disaster zone, potentially putting themselves at great risk for our safety. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of the emergency services (especially the firefighters who were at the forefront of this dangerous nightmare). We should feel proud to have such highly skilled services supporting our needs within this community. The fact that they have never had to deal with a situation like this and yet they managed to exceed everyones expectations (even the experts)by fighting and conquering that almighty blaze truely an amazing feat. Thank you all for your hard work it is very much appeciated.

We are extremely grateful as we realize the extreme danger and devastation you were faced with and felt the whole situation was dealt with very efficiently. It has been an exhausting time for all involved. We were enraged when the Hemel fire brigade fell under critism, we felt it was unjust! From where we stood it looked like it had been contained very well! Thank you all for protecting our families, friends and colleagues - homes and town. I am proud to see how well Hemel Hempstead has dealt with such a catastrophe.

We are basically from India and staying and working very close to the incident area. We have been evacuated and stayed with friends for three days. All this time the council and police are very helpful to give us appropriate information when ever we need.
Name: Trina Elliott Address: Abbots Langley Views: I was in the French Alps skiing when i heard about the explosion and in a quick panic phoned home to make sure everyone i knew who lived in Hemel and surrounding areas were ok. Luckily my Stepdad who works at the terminal which exploded wasn't working on the day it took place, although some of his collegues/friends were. Luckily noone was majorly hurt and although it's a shock and a sad thing to happen its also very lucky that it happened at the time it did and on the day it did and for that i will always be thankful as we could of lost alot of people close to us or close to someone we know. I just wanted to say a big thank you and well done to all the emergency services for all their courage and bravery when it was needed the most. I admire you all very much!

Comments from the Fire Brigade Union Boss led me to register my disgust at his comments, about not being prepared,to local M.P.Mike Penning. He also agreed that the efforts in dealing with this emergency were beyond normal boundaries and our thanks, not discouragement, should be the order of the day. Very well done and a Happy Christmas to all of them.

Name: Heather Rutland Address: Adeyfield Hemel Hempstead Views: I would like to say a HUGE THANKYOU to all the fire crews involved for doing an absolutely amazing job, and putting their lives on the line for the residents of Hemel hempstead. No Fire Service in this land would have been prepared for such an Enormous Task but our local fire crews with the help of others brought this potentially Lethal situation under control without the loss of life or injury to anyone. That is AMAZING. You all have our utmost Respect and Appreciation. The front line Fire crews deserve Medals!!!!! Many Thanks also to the police from all divisions for standing guard and keeping us safe. All the Emergency Services have done us PROUD.

Name: COLIN BEARDON Address: SARRATT AVENUE HEMEL HEMPSTEAD HERTS Views: I would like to express my thanks to every one of the firefighters and other emergency services especially the Hertfordshire team for their very courageous effort in containing and taming the major blaze at the Buncefield oildepot. Each and every one of them (heroes in my opinion) carrying out their duties in what must have been horrendous circumstances and possibly endagering their own well being.I personally was not affected by this incident and I obviously can't speak for everybody in the Hemel and local areas but I hope and am sure that every person and family that were affected some in far more ways than others share my thanks to all of the fire fighters who braved their lives in this most major of incidents. I have never understood and never will why the local council or planning department ever granted planning applications to erect buildings so close to the oil depot, I admit that an incident of this magnitude could not be forseen but it has now proved what a volatile site it was. I hope that the depot never ever reopens.
Name: Tracey Gates Address: 18 Dickens Court Woodhall Farm Hemel Hempstead Views: Please send a huge thank you to all the emergency services involved at the Buncefield fire. You all deserve a medal. Considering they have never dealt with anything like this ever before I think they all deserve our unreserved thanks. There are probably a lot of people that owe their lives to these people. I would like to praise the fire brigade for the quick response and how quickly the fire was put out. The police for securing the Industrial area to any who have nefarious thoughts
Name: Laura Address: Woodhall Farm Hemel Hempstead Views: I have nothing but praise for all of those who put their own lives at risk to save ours. They all did a remarkable job on a situation which we never dreamed would happen in our own town. A situation such as this shouldn't be used as an opportunity to criticise but to reward acts of courage. A huge thanks to everyone involved.
Name: Nick Ramm Address: Belsize Rd. Hemel Hempstead Views: My family would like to express our thanks to the emergency services involved in the Buncefield explosion and congratulate everyone on a job well done. All their hard work and commitment is very much appreciated by the Hemel community. I was shocked to learn that the FBU,the very people who are supposed to champion the firefighters, are the first to condemn their ability to respond. The fact that they extinguished Buncefield without any loss of life speaks for itself.
Name: Maggie Dawson Address: Atlas Copco, Swallowdale Lane, Hemel Hempstead Views: It is sad that some people find it easier to criticise rather than to praise. Luckily, there are enough of us more than willing to "overcall" with a more positive perception. Everybody involved deserves praise, and recognition, and appreciation for what they achieved under very dangerous and unpredictable circumstances, and within an extraordinary timescale. We were back in our office on Wednesday morning, which I consider to be a mini-miracle. Thank you.
Name: Iain Address: Grove Hill, Hemel Views: I would like to thank the emergency services for the extremely difficult job they have done to extinguish the fire. Thank you also to hospital services and to the police for policing the area and keeping us safe, a difficult job well done. The fire service are incredibly brave and I am very angry that they were criticised for being "woefully prepared". I would have liked whoever said that to actualy have said it to the fire fighters faces while at the scene. If they had been there I think these comments would not have been made. All the firefighters on the scene deserve the highest of commendations.
Name: Lesley Address: Windmill Road Adeyfield Views: I would like to say a BIG thankyou to all the emergency services, but particularly the firemen/women who worked relentlessly under extremely difficult and unpredictable circumstances. Thank you to the police department for their quick response to the area and for keeping the public from harms way. Thank you to the ambulance service for their quick response & looking after the people who were injured. I think you all did a fantastic job under extreme pressure & I take my hat off to each and every person in the emergency services. I cannot imagine what it was like being right in front of the fire or anywhere near it so thank you for risking your lives so ours would be safe. Thank you so much again.

Name: Lucie Ginger Address: Hemel Hempstead - currently on holiday in Malaysia! Views: i would like to say thank you for all the hard work of the emergency services and for all that helped to keep this explosion under control. myself, my fiance and daughter were on our way to Malaysia on the morning of the explosion and only heard about it from a CNN news report at the airport. thankfully, family at home told us that our home was ok, but if it werent for the emergency services responding immediately, who knows what might have happened. we are safe in the knowledge now that our home and our family are fine. although i would like to wish everyone well, and hope that we can get through safely and without any more instances. we would like to wish everyone a fantastic Christmas in spite of everything, and a safe new year. Cleveland Views: I live right on the edge of Seal Sands and we have oil, petro chemical chemical plant and even a nucler power plant to name but a very few and i for one would like to say that if there is ever a fire or explosion the whole lot would have a chain reaction and it would wipe off the north east of England. I would like to say a very big thankyou to you all for the speed and efficiency with which you got the fire under control and out. the union should have got their hands dirty and helped out instead of criticising you i bet they would have run a mile. I hope that if there is ever a accident up here our fire crews do a job as well done as your lads. Well done all
Name: Jean, Alex and Harry Botfield Address: Cambrian Way Highfield Hemel Hempstead Views: Just to say a huge thank you to ALL the emergency services for their professionalism and handling of this terrible disaster. Whilst we felt scared at the prospect of another explosion, we trusted the fire brigade would protect us, the best they could,to prevent further erruptions from these horrendous tanks. Buncefield should be closed down forever as a reminder that this can never happen again. This was a nighmare come true. THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR SAVING OUR TOWN AND LIVES.
