SO many local people signed our online protest that we have had to start a new web page. The 1st has been passed on to Whitehall
Name: Lindsay Barker Address: Leverstock Green Views: Hemel Hempstead is the largest town in Hertfordshire. It has a population of 81,143 as opposed to Watford's 79,500. I understood that once a town reached a certain population it HAS to have a HOSPITAL. Therefore why should our Hospital move to Watford - surely it should be the other way round !!! Certain parts of Hemel Hospital are relatively new - what a waste of money - and the Government say they need to reduce expenditure - none of it makes sense - is the country run by a load of idiots !
Name: MR E.E.TAYLOR Address: BRIERY WAY HIGH STREET GREEN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD Views: Watford General is probably an older establishment than the Hemel Hempstead site. Watford is a pain to get to,plus get to either by public transport or private car, parking facillitys are a nightmare. when I have to go to Watford Ihave to use a taxi cab. which for a pensioner i find hard to pay.
Name: Val Address: Berkhamssted Views: As a new resident to Berko - I could not believe the signs on the road to Hemel - "save our hospital" - I thought here we go again - I think we should have a local lottery every week to help costs to save this hospital and all other hospitals under closure threat - I am sure local residents would support this cause - Yeah we should have a NHS lottery day - but seriously - this is madness - utter madness to close Hemel Hospital -
Name: wendy hume Address: musgrave walk hartlepool Views: no hospital should close we need our hospitals
Name: christie hammond-clay Address: tenzing road hemel hempsead Views: How many people have to die before they reconsider. What is a Town without the basic Hospital requirements such as A&E. Hemel Hempstead is a fast growing community with houses being built at a fast rate what saine person would want to move into a town that cannot offer an essential service.

Name: Ruth Carl Address:Autumn Glades, Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead, Views: I am horrified that there are plans to close our local hospital. Both my children were born at Hemel and if they were ill or injured I would want the reassurance of a local hospital that we could access quickly.
The is already a story on the front of this week's local paper about a child who DIED because of delays following his transfer to Watford. We need faster and more local services, not slower ones further away. The wishes of the local population are being ignored by government yet again - this shouldn't happen in a democracy.
Name: Marion Potts Address: East Street, Hemel Hempstead Views: The staff at Hemel Hospital do a great job, but as in many hospitals around the country they are over-worked through being under-staffed. The population of this town is growing daily, so how is removing services from Hemel going to help the situation? They are struggling to cope now.
Name: Ann Hall Address: Belswains Lane HEMEL HEMPSTEAD Views: I have read so much in the Gazette, of course about the closing of the hospital.
The People who are supposed to be Investing in our health have put us in the greatest debt . If they had invested that money in OUR HOSPITAL it wouldn't have been so bad, if they haven't got the money how are they going to get the money for the new SurgieCentre or the New Hospital @ Hatfield, which they haven't even purchased the land let alone build the hospital, planning permission.
We know Our hospital is an old/new building they could still build on the same site without all the expense of buying the land etc .and have the surgiecentre all on one site, we have spent a fortune doing up OUR HOSPITAL.
Are they just going to let it all go to waste (taxpayers money, furniture fittings ). These people were not elected by us and obviously do not know how to budget money, there are so many ways they could raise the standards, The Doctors and nurses are all excellent, they deserve better than this treatment, Get rid of investing in our health Team and let the people who really know the ward sisters, doctors, nurses consultants our campaigner Zena Bullamore who has done an excellent job, Mr Pennington only to name but a few.
One answer to raise money for the hospital is to use the land that is not built on at present use as extra parking temporarily until it is decided what is going to happen @ £2.50 a Day like the councils' car parks Think of ways to raise the money to help, we have seen it can be done and people are willing to help , you only have to see how people responded to the stroke appeal another new venture. Let's get behind our hospital and save it for us all with full facilities.
I'm sorry if I've gone on but when I went to a meeting almost ten years ago these so good people weren't interested in saving the hospital then WHAT'S IN IT FOR THEM I WONDER!!!!!
Name: Dil Williams Address: , The Apple Orchard Views: I note, from today's press, that Gordon Brown is of to Africa to give away £8.5 billion for primary education. Yet he can't afford to keep Hemel Hempstead hospital in business let alone do something for beleagured pensioners. And I'm a beleagured pensioner who's having to pay for Gordon Brown's generosity.
Name: Debra Ealand Address: Hemel Hempstead Views: If ever there was a reason to secure the future of accident and emergency facilities at Hemel Hempstead general hospital it must surely be the Buncefield Depot disaster in December! Fortunately because of the day and time of the disaster there were no fatalities or major casualties but if this had been different it would have been chaos getting the injured to Watford general hospital.
The fact that Hemel Hempstead is close in proximity to the M1 and M25 is another reason accident and emergency facilities should remain at Hemel Hempstead general hospital. The closure of other wardssuch as the closure of York Ward for the elderly and the Birthing Unit doesn't make sense either. Hemel Hempstead is I believe one of the most populated towns in Hertfordshire and it does not make sense that these services should be located elsewhere and large numbers of people are having to make difficult journeys to receive treatment that they need.

Name: r burnett Address: hemel hempstaed Views: closing hemel hospital is the most stupid idea possible I am a single parent, as are many hundreads of people in hemel hempstead, how do i get to the hospital if my son gets hurt. Surly i'm not meant to ring 999 everytime he gets hurt!!!!! by doing this as many people will have too is going to take up very valuable time to ambulance crew who could and will be needed for a proper accident or emergencey.
Name: K Su Address: Roughdown Avenue Hemel Hempstead Herts
Name: Tom Picton Address: 25 Nash Green Hemel Hempstead Views: Clever government, they can afford to give out a billion pounds a year for asylum seekers to live in a life of luxury here in england, but they cant afford a fraction of that price to keep West Herts General Hospital open for us the british tax payers!
Name: michelle wakeling Address: thumpers hemel hempstead Views: my daughter who was 7 at the time, was admitted with asthma, after a visit to the A and E, after trying to get a bed in watford, we were told it was full, and so she was farmed off to lister hospital, her dad had to stay with her for a whole week, unfed, and unable to get home.
i know this seems a small complaint but when there are 5 other people at home unable to do much, as we're on benefit, i know we,re able to claim any fares incurred in getting to hospital, but not for all her sisters to visit, this put us in such poverty, and was caused because, WHEN HEMEL CHILDRENS WARD WAS SHUT, THEY ONLY GAVE WATFORD 2 THIRDS OF THE AMOUNT OF BEDS WE'D LOST. HOW IS THAT APPROPRIATE.
it has left a very bad taste in our mouths and leaves us wondering whether we should bother taking any of our kidsto hospital in the future. and thats not good at all is it? i also know where some of the debt is being accumulated, they pay for cabs, (yes common cabs )to transfer patiants to far flung places, my partner was driven by a common taxi to middlesex hospital both ways, i dread to think what would have happened if his dog bitten face had haemoraged on the way...
Name: Willow Address: Email supplied Views: From the open letter published today I am sure all residents of Hemel and the catchment area for the Hemel Hospital will be very concerned. My 100 year old grandmother is currently an inpatient so I visited her and was very impressed by the new buildings, services and number of staff in attendance. She went in with a head injury but developed a chest and stomach infection while in the hospital and now expected to pass on quite soon as a result. I broke a bone in my foot two years ago and was amazed at the high standard of care at Hemel Hospital, the fracture unit is fantastic! My former experience of a hospital was UCH in London which has had major issues in the past but won the war to stay open and rebuild...Hemel has already done the rebuilding! If the letter published on this website gives the true picture then we must insist on a medical helicopter service to Watford as is used in London to avoid the road ambulance problems with traffic - this will save lives! Essentially both Watford and Hemel hospitals are not coping well now so ridiculous to lose one of them! If the Health Service is really that stretched they should lose all the idiots running it and give greater ownership to the physicians who know what they are doing! This is purely a case of budget cuts and nobody believes the rubbish PR messages about a more efficient service - I work in PR so not fooled!

Name: Mr G Address: Warners End Views: As a long time Hemelite... just one thing to say. THIS SUCKS!!! leave our hospital alone.
Name: cheryl russo Address: gadebridge Views: It is outrgaeous that a growing town such as Hemel hempstead is losing so many services. I am concerned about the possible closure of the A and E unit. What happens to small accidents that don't warrant calling an ambulance but need urgent attention and you are not able to get to Watford? Not everyone has access to their own transport and not everyone has the money to get there! It is not right that the people of Hemel and surrounding areas are being treated in this way.
Name: L Johnson Address: Berkhamsted Views: It's sickening that a Labour government would preside over the dismantling by stealth of local NHS services. Please reconsider.
Name: Kay Potton Address:Ridge Lea Hemel Hempstead Views: People that I know have given birth at the unit and they have highly recommended it. My last child was born at Watford Hospital and I wouldn't recommend it and I don't think the option of using the unit in Hemel should be taken away.
Name: Mrs Higgs Address: Betjeman Way Hemel Hempstead Views: Hemel Hempstead is a rapidly expanding town. Therefore ALL services at our valuable hospital are VITAL.
Name: Pat Yirrell Address: St albans Hill Hemel Hempstead Views: I think it is dreadful to close any part of the hospital, Hemel is a large town and we need our own FULL hospital services. A few months ago I had to take my daughter to A&E with a bad asthma attack. We arrived at 11pm, and I crawlwed into bed that night at 2am. They claim that only trauma cases will go to Watford, but if they change their minds, and allow us just a minor injuries unit, we will have to go to Watford for emergencies too. If I had had to tke my daughter to Watford, I probably would not have got to bed at all that night.
Name: John Salsbury Address: Sidford Close Hemel Hempstead Views: I think it is disgraceful that the so badly named "TRUST" has decided to close out hospital services. The NHS has alweays been about saving lives NOT money. How do they think our sick and elderly feel when they have to travel MILES to recieve treatment.. how do our mums feel when they have to go to Watford to have a baby... overcrowded and understaffed.. how about our A&E department.
Why shou.ld a perfectly good newly built ( 2000) department go to waste simply because our business managers obviously cannot manage the business ????
These are higly paid and expensive people ( non medical and non clinical) who drain the NHS of salaries in some cases in excess of £40k whereas our qualified nursing staff are on something in the region of £20k.
These are trained lifesavers and carers...NOT admin staff and penpushers. We could easily save our trust over £200k pa by sacking 3 administrators.
Name: william boyd Address:Masons Road, Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead, Views: I like many people in Hemel Hempstead would like the authorities to keep their hands of Hemel Hempstead Hospital. It is there for a purpose and that is to offer care for the eldery and expecting mothers, traveling to Watford could mean the difference between life and death for some of these people in need of care. One death is one too many so lets fight to keep Hemel Hempstead Hospital as it is andprovide improvements where needed.
Name: Les Henson Address: hillfield Road Hemel Hempstead Herts Views: With the building of so many new properties and especially flats designed for the younger family they will undoubtedly have children and with out a local maternity hospital along with other health services we are encouraging more use of energy and resources to get us to Watford. The health authority and goverment should look at the over all inpact this will have on our community. Labour may wish to concrete all of southern England but this impinges on health, water, policing, and all services in general. By all means build more homes but do not demolish the infra structure.
Name: Symonds & M Gallagher Address: Hales Park
Name: Mrs S Thomson Address: 96 Hobletts Road Adeyfield Hemel Hempstead Views: I am disgusted at the suggestion of further closures at our Hospital. I have two children one born at Hemel and the other at Watford because of the closure of the maturnity unit so I know first hand what it is like to have to travel to Watford. It is a terrible journey at the best of times and especially when in pain or in an emergency. It is also very difficult for friends and families as well and puts extre pressure on when the situation is stressful
Name: Mrs Brenda Parr Address: Claymore, Hemel Hempstead, Herts Views: We need our hospital and do not need any ward closures whatsoever. All those involved in ordering these closures, need to think again about the upset they are causing a lot of people, especially the elderly and expectant mothers who need to be near their families especially.
Instead of making closures our hospital should have all wards returned and should be increased in size. Our town and surrounding areas should have the best hospital there is.
Name: Mr John Downing Address: Vicarage Road, Wigginton, Views: I am disgusted at the proposed closure necessitating travel to Watford. The Watford hospital is not readily accessable and is in a conjested area with/limited parking and poor communication for people without their own transport.
Name: Joan Rowland Address: Rosehill Court, Hemel Hempstead, Views: I think its disgusting that they're closing an old people's ward. Elderly relatives cannot afford to go to Watford to visit their loved ones. It's disgraceful. Name: Geoffrey Rowland Address: Rosehill Court, Hemel Hempstead Views: The hospital is closing bit by bit; the police station is only part-time! What are we in Hemel Hempstead--second-class citizens. The council tax goes up year on year. We are entitled to have the same services as anyone else.
Name: Neil & Margaret Wallis. Address: Crouchfield Boxmoor. Hemel Hempstead Views: Like many other people in this country I am sick of Politicians, Bureaucrats, Etcetera treating Us, the people who pay their wages, like Idiots (I suppose we could be) we do tend to let them do as they like regardless of our wishes. We are informed Money is generally the reason our wishes are ignored. But if they decide to go to War, Killing, Maiming people miraculously Money becomes available!!!.
They should get their priorities right. The majority of people (who pay their wages)would probably like Life saving amenities rather than the other.
Would it not be a good idea to publish on the front page of our free local News Paper each week a list of Hospital Trust Names of those managers wanting to close Hospital wards etcetera.
Having worked in Watford for forty odd years I do know how bad the traffic problems can be. God help anyone who has to take children or in fact anyone to the Watford Hospital at the wrong time of the day when traffic conditions are at there worst..

Name: M K D Byrne Address: Woodlands Drive Kings Langley Herts Views: Being Diabetic and disabled living on crutches I cannot use Watford hospital as , as bad as parking at Hemel is I can at least get there. We have One bus a weekday which goes to hemel then I must return within two hours or get a taxi(this I cannot afford as I`m retired and on a very fixed income)and no I cannot claim as I`m single as was stupid and did not get myself in debt, and bought my own home. Govenment answer get a loan or re-morgage. I have a dogy pump after a massive heart attack, very bad inoperable Arthitis If the powers at Hemel Hospital would like to borrow my shoes for a week their welcome. They are well on the way to getting one more off the waiting list "AS THEY ARE KILLING ME" as sure as if they are driving a knife into my Heart.
Name: Ann & John Baldwin Address: Tooveys Mill Close Kings Langley Hertsma Views: Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding area is growing in population all the time with the number of new homes being built so far from closing down any part of the hospital it really needs to be increased in size and capacity to cope with the increased amount of people.
Name: Dr and Mrs I R Lloyd Address: Bedmond Road Leverstock Green Views: Totally in favour of retaining York Ward and further increasing facilities at Hemel Hospital, which are so necesary in a district of increasing population and needs
Name: Brian & Jean Whyte Address: Peascroft Road Leverstock Green Hemel Hempstead Views: We think it is disgraceful that we the citizens of Hemel Hempstead should have to travel to Watford for most of our essential hospital services. We the people of Hemel Hempstead should decide what we want from our local hospital, not some faceless bureaucrat who has no interest in our area and is only interested in saving money, not the services of the local community. Whenever we see the world "Trust" in relation to hospital services, then you know that we are in for a bad time. Mistrust is nearer the mark.
Name: Mr & Mrs Reg THOLE Address: 32 Datchworth Turn LEVERSTOCK GREEN Views: We are opposed to any closure of hospital facilities in Hemel. The town will be decimated by the closure of the Hemel Birth Centre. The proposed closure of the A/E section of the hospital is a disgrace. Watford cannot accomodate the whole of Hemel Hempstead and if Buncefield is rebuilt then that would be a great disaster for this area
Name: francesca hosein Address: dellcut road adeyfield hemel hempstead Views: I think it is disgusting that we dont have full services at our hospital.we spend money on new shops when we have loads already empty. you cannot know when u are gonna be ill and at weekends we have no baby doctors.each town should have their own hospital. watford cannot cope it has been prooven time and time again.its alright for politicians as they will go private but us working class cant AFFORD THAT. everyone deserves a chance of the best help in illness and it shouldnt be cos your rich.HEMEL NEEDS ITS HOSPITAL. WHAT ID LIKE TO KNOW IS. THESE PEOPLE WHO WANTS TO SHUT OUR HOSPITAL DON'T THEY LIVE IN HEMEL.
Name: John F McDonald Address: Washington Avenue Hemel Hempstead Views: As someone who has experienced the excellent care at Hemel Hempstead Hospital, I deplore the depletion of its services. We can't allow the Government to get away with this. If they are allowed to get rid of the Birth Centre, then it will be some other service, then another and another. We must stop it now!
Name: C.Dickman Address: Cardy Road Boxmoor Hemel Hempstead Views: I thought that this government was about improving services. How can this be when they are running down services at Hemel hospital. Services cannot improve if Hemel residents have to travel to Watford which can take over an hourat peak times. Even Watford cannot handle the extra work load. Lives may be lost. Do they care? of course not, it's all about saving money not lives.
Name: ken Russell Address: 12, Thatchers Croft Hemel Hempstead Herts Views: I dread to think what will happen should anybody become seriously ill on a Saturday and have to go to Watford Genral through all that traffic. How will they cope with the extra parking required. This government has tried big is beautiful and as we can all see, it does not work. Why change things when they work.
Name: Reg East Address: Parr Crescent Hemel Hempstead Views: After Buncfield incident and the area defined a high risk any closures seem silly. Also how far are they wanting the old and infirmed to travel cant for once common sense prevail.
Name: jennie Address: Argyll Road Views: We should not be losing a hospital in a large town which is expanding constantly. How can you expand a town and then take away the hospital. being a mother with a 2nd on the way it frightens me that i will not be able to rush my daughter in the event of an accident to my local hospital. Some people can not drive which could make a difference of life or death!!!!
Name: Colin Hirst Address: Dellfield Ave, Berkhamsted Views: No closures should be allowed at HHGH. Hemel and surrounding district is growing rapidly. New homes, new shops, hotels, businesses etc.. and, as many have already commented, Watford's facilities are inadequate and inaccessible. What about converting the Kodak building into a new super hospital? The existing hospital site could be redeveloped to pay for the conversion and we would have a well placed hospital, with good road / rail links and handy for the M1 motorway. Or why not build a new hospital on the Buncefield site?
Name: S.Haylock Address: Hemel Hempstead
Name: Laura Healey Address:Torridge Walk Grovehill Hemel hempstead HP2 6ET Views: I myself am a nurse and after threats of closure at my hospital in Scotland my husband and i moved to this area after securing employment. I findthe threat of closure disgusting as it is national and once the government has targeted a hospital it appears there is no hope. We need to constantly fight and protest staff, patients and the community as it affects everyone including the policitians as we all know health is unpredicatable.
Name: Ann Montgomery Address: Crackley Meadow Hunters Oak Hemel Hempstead Views: I think it is a disgrace that closures are even considered. Watford is a difficult hospital to get to and cannot cope now with its catchment area. Also it does not seem that we respect our elderly population any more - without them we would not be here.
Name: Coops Address: Hancroft road Bennets End Views: How can they delete our Hospital??????? lickely the resent fire at Bunsfeild was not severe, if it was a working day how would they cope??. if we get rid of Hemel Hospital the young and old will suffer. god only knows. lets hope the powers of be, not need to use our hospital.

Name: K Ward Address: Grove Hill Views: If the "Precious" land in the town is required for new houses and so many people are against the re-building of Buncefield as an oil storage location, then why can't the land be re-developed as a new hospital and fire station? Watford is a dire hospital in a dire location and if it is bursting at the seams at present - what is it going to be like with Hemel and surrounding areas paitents to deal with?
Name: Ken Delagua Address: Ripley Way Hemel Hempstead Herts
Name: Brian Kent Address: Bedmond Road Hemel Hempstead Views: There are plans to build more homes here in Hemel Hempstead and it needs its own hospital. I recently had a heart attack and spent 3 weeks in Hemel. If I had been taken to Watford I would have discharged myself. Those of us that can think for ourselves know that it is impossible to even get into Watford at times. A recent Taxi driver reported it taking him over 2 Hours for an 8 mile journey. Ever heard about the 'Golden Hour', bloody waste of time that is. We all know why Hemel is up for closure and it doesn't include people, its all about money and how the brain dead maggots who prevail over Hemel Hospital are all set to get rich. Or should I say get richer than they are now. One day I will come face to face with these maggots, and God help them!!
Name: Mrs E Martin Address: Springfield Road Hemel Hempstead Views: The people of Hemel Hempstead really need our hospital to stay If the Buncefield explosions had happened during a week day and we had no hospital in our town the consequences do not bear thinking about, and with the roads being blocked off as they were, getting casualties to the nearest hospital could have catastrophic results.
Name: Kerry Kenny Address: Bennetts End Road Views: Now this town has been brought to National attention, it should be highlighted the proposals that are intended for out hospital. It is shameful
Name: peter sawyer and rose sawyer Address: white hart drive hemel hempstead
Name: Kevin & Sue Brennan Views: In the light of what has happened today at the Buncefield Oil Terminal, it goes to show how essential it is to have a local hospital complete with all of it's services including a full and active accident and emergency unit. I think that the community has been very fortunate that this happened when it did and there weren't more casualties. Just imagine what could have happened if the explosion had occured early on Monday morning when everyone was arriving at work and the Hospital had been closed.
Name: Kathy Address: Fields End Hemel Hempstead Views: In view of the on-going disaster at Buncefield Oil Terminal, this will be a very good argument against any alteration or closure to our present hospital services. Having recently visited Watford Gen. our Hemel Hospital is way above the facilities provided at Watford and I am sure that Watford could not cope with a major catastrophe or our increasing immigrant and ethnic population, which nobody appears to have taken into account.
Name: Leonard Perryman Address: 2/77 Rutherford Street Woolston Christchurch 2 New Zealand. Ex Of 69 Jocketts Rd Chaulden Hemel Hempstead. Views: I livied in Hemel Hempstead most of my life. I was on all the marches to stop the closure with Robin Corbit the m.p. On the 22 Dec 1996 my mother died in that ward and in that wing of the hospital over my live I have lost two Uncles and a Aunt. Your news paper may remember me I was one of the bus drivers the took about 150 children out every year on the gade valley fun day. I worked at the bus garage. I was also a governer of two schools in in Hemel Chaulden infant and junior's Schools for a nomber of years. So I gave up a lot of my famliy and a lot of my time to the town of Hemel hempstead. Before I came to live in New Zealand. P.S. all the money the was left in the gade valley funday account. We gave to the childrens ward in the hospital just before I came to New Zealand. And I am against any thing that takes away from the old and the young in HEMEL or any where else.
Name: Tina Howard Address: Roydon Court Hemel Hempstead Views: I think it is absolutely vital that we Keep our Hospital in our Town. Hemel is still a growing town and with it's closure and the closure of St Albans it will put even more pressure on Watford and the QE 2 in Welwyn Garden City. And what are parents and the elderly and those who do not have cars supposed to do? Also let's not forget the events of the past 2 days, the Buncefield Explosion and the magnificent job the emergency services have done to keep us safe - if we had not had a hospital on the doorstep then maybe there would have been more serious casualties. So come on Ms Hewitt, listen to the People that voted for your party and help us to keep our hospital and remember what we pay our national insurance for.
Name: miss smith Address: st.albans Views: my friend and i agree it is really unfair that people with children, especially the young ones have to go all the way to watford as the childrens ward is now a day unit.in an emergency situation what do they expect people to do????? its bad enough that there are no proper hospital services in st.albans and there are rumours of the QEii closing down. what the hell is happening to our hospitals??/ its not very reassuring that if we have to go to a&e u have got to travel miles across hertfordshire just to get in a queue!! hemel is too big NOT to have a hospital, c'mon see some sense!!!

WHAT ABOUT THE MILLIONS WASTED ON CONSULTANTS FEES WHO ARE IN IT TO SUPPSEDLY TRY AND SAVE MONEY, WHEN WILL THAT MONEY BE RECOUPED. MY EXPERIENCE IS THAT THE SAVING IS NOT ALWAYS LONG TERM, AND VERY RARELY REALISED. THE ONLY PEOPLE GAINING OUT OF THIS IS THE CONSULTANTS, WHETHER IT BE FOR THE BBC, COMPANIES OR THE NHS. I WOULD EXPECT SOMETHING LIKE THIS FROM A CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT NOT A LABOUR. ALSO HEMEL IS GROWING TOWN AND THEY NEED THEIR SERVICES HERE NOT AT WATFORD OR HITCHIN

Also my sister-in-law is pregnant, when she goes into labour, she's going to have to traville all the way to watford if not further..this is a bloody crap survice if you ask me..so what can we do about it?...The only thing we can do...DONT GIVE UP.KEEP PROTESTING..i dont see why we should loose our hospital..haveing a local hospital is our right! Chris Bird Address: St Agnells Lane Views: As a Hemel Taxi Driver I am appalled at the proposed closures. Recently I had to take a customer to Watford General just before 5pm. The journey took 1hr 12 mins plus a further 1 hour to return. What impact will there be if it takes 1 hour or more to get to your A & E? PEOPLE WILL DIE - may their blood forever stain the hands of the bureaucrats who think only of money and not of lives and service.
Name: Suze Watts-Hassan Address: Gadebridge Views: Maternity services, geriatric care and treatment for accidents and emergencies. Surely these are the basic requirements for a local hospital - not the first things to be cut. I am so depressed about this stupid decision that I feel like moving away from this town. Everything else is going up -snazzy shopping centres, marinas, multi storey housing developments and a depressingly empty "people building" (Whatever is that for?). This is a insult to people in Hemel have worked hard to help make this a decent place to live - don't we deserve a hospital? The people who have screwed this up should be publicly humiliated.

Name: Lee-Anne Visagie Address: Datchworth Turn Hemel Hempstead Views: This is madness. Hemel has a large population that requires its own local facilities. I shudder to think what will happen to elderly friends and family if they have to go all the way to Watford, through traffic, in an emergency! Generations of families remain living in Hemel and contributing to the local community - do we really deserve to have our ward closed?!
Name: marc jackson Address: hobletts road, hemel hempstead Views: I am almost 15 years old and i think it is appauling that they are thinking of closing our local hospital. Although it's not the greatest of hospitals and some of my reletives have died there because of their wrong doings and the state of the hospital, it should still be there because we need it to save (well try)our local citizens of the comuntity who need it for numerous reasons. If we no longer have it then the people who need to go to hospital will have to travel in an ambulance all the way to watford which could result in some people dying because they had to travel further meaning that they couldn't be treated in time.

Watford hospital is too far away with immense traffic problems/jams just to get to treatment, let alone visiting. Watford hospital is not a good hospital with long waiting lists for tests and operations. I do not believe it could cope with even more patients.

Name: Mrs K. Frost Address: Wood Lane End H.H Views: The closure of A@E is ridiculous, we now have more residents than ever as the town and surrounding areas are developed so it is imperative that we keep our hostpital. Its all very well building new shops and houses but we need services to maintain the thousands of people who live here. How many people will have to die in an ambulance in a traffic jam on the way to watford before these bureacrats realise what a huge mistake they have made
Name: Kelly Su Address: Roughdown Avenue Hemel Hempstead Views: The idea is just completely insane.
Name: N Maxted Address: Boxted Road,HH Views: We cannot allow Hemel hospital or any of it's departments to close. Watford cannot cope now and if our local services were moved there it would be a complete shambles. Closing our mid wife unit bacause of under staffing at watford would not solve the issue as Mid wives don't want to work there, ask them yourselves! Hemel is being developed, new homes, new shops and business, we need more services for this town, not less.

Once again the hospital is threatened. It was needed then and it's still needed now.
Name: Suss Address: Bovingdon Views: If this hospital is closed it means simply that people will die, regardless of age or the illness it is no more than manslaughter on the hands of the people involved in the closure. These people need to go through some hardship and medical problems to fully understand that if you close a hospital that is funded by the people that need it problems will increase ten fold.

Name: Laura Gunn Address: 35 Hetchleys Hemel Hempstead Herts Views: Hello, just wanted to add my own voice to the growing number of people becoming more and more alarmed by the prospect of losing our A & E. Having just read the news article about the possible future development of homes for 50,000 to expand our town, I had a few obvious questions : with more homes must come more schools, shops, jobs etc. and MORE MEDICAL FACILITIES, not less! It will be a good prospect for Hemel to go through positive development but it has to be well thought out. With such an increase of traffic on the road in addition to the increase of people, how on earth could we be expected to travel to an overstretched Watford for emergency treatment. I have had 1st hand experience of needing immediate help,13 years ago, when one of our sons had meningitis, suffered a convulsion for an extended length of time, and was treated urgently at Hemel Hospital, the extra time travelling to Watford could have resulted in brain damage. We were lucky, how long before peo! ple realise we should have all the necessary facilities here in our town permanently. Yours exasperatingly, Laura Gunn.

Name: Sanja Sobot Address: 4 Brickmakers Lane Hemel Hempstead Views: Looking at the past 3 years I can say that Hemel Hempstead has been expanding, building, rebuilding and it is getting busier each day. I heard about Hemel Hospital and I can't believe that somebody wants to close this Hospital. There is a lot of people who depend of this hospital and esspecialy now when the new shoping center opens we will get more people coming to the town and not only to shop here but to maybe invest and buy a property which will in turn mean population increase but what do we get instead somebody our there in the present govermnment wishing to close our hospital down. If the government want's to cut down on the cost they should stop producing weapons and start investing in NHS and medical care of it's citisens.
Name: Elizabeth Gibson Address: Argyll Road HH Views: The nearest hospitals would be Watford of St. Albans - a definite stress for those having to vistit ill friends and relatives with distances to travel KEEP HEMEL HOSPITAL OPEN
Name: Cherisse Craig Address: Isenburg Way, Hemel Hempstead Views: It is criminal that the Hemel Hospital is to close some or all of its departments. I have always had such good care at Hemel and it is the cleanest hospital I've ever been in. I agree with comments Brian Kent made with reference to the management being 'Muppets'. Haven't they ever been to Watford - seen its dirt, old buildings, narrow roads, building site of a car park and have they tried to get there from Hemel? I wonder how many babies are born en-route; how many residents of Hemel don't go for appointments due to the mileage and difficulty getting in by the arduous route! What about the walking wounded - how many of those will treat themselves and maybe overlook a more serious complaint. No one is going to go to A & E in Watford enduring pain and discomfort on buses or risking an accident in their car whilst driving with an injury!
Name: Joanna Herbert Address: George Street BERKHAMSTED Views: Please do not close this ward which is vital to our community. Living in Berkhamsted it is hard enough to get to visit sick relatives and friends in Hemel Hempstead let alone if they were sent further afield to other hospitals.

Name: michelle wakeling Address: thumpers Views: By 2020 our town is set to rise by some 20,000 homes, since when has any form of common sense concluded that it would be a good idea to prepare for this by cutting valuable amenities like hospitals, and then have the cheek to pass the buck to neighbouring watford, who in all fairness have tried, but just cant cope. I doubt anyone would look badly upon the government that could say, "we tried our idea, and it failed, now we can try it another way." but no, government doesnt work that way and could never turn back on an idea, so until that day, the people of hemel will just have to keep on trying to bang it into the heads of gov. that lowly little (soon to be gargantuous!) HEMEL DESPERATELY NEEDS ITS FULL HEALTHCARE AMENITIES UP AND RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!ALL SECTORS OF IT.
Name: Pete Greening Address: Craigavon Road Hemel Hempstead Views: Hemel is a large town, and needs a hospital of it's own. It's ridiculous expecting people to travel to Watfordf or even further afield for treatment, or to visit in-patients - especially in an age where petrol is becoming pricier by the minute and may well be in declining production.
Name: Tina Parr Address: Leverstock Green Road Hemel Hempstead Views: Unless there are adequate facilities and support for vulnerable citizens any closure is a breach of duty and is opening the door for negligence claims and further health complications: which could cost more in the long term. Closures are short-sighted and forcing private care through the back door, making way for the eradication of those less well off. Is this really what the Health Service is about?
Name: Rachel Chambers Address: Roefields Close Hemel Hempstead Views: With the average age in Britain constantly rising due to better health care, it does not make sense to close wards for the elderly. A local hospital should also be considered to be in-line with the government's agenda on reducing global warming and road congestion. I further do not believe that Watford General is easily accessible for partners and families caring for elderly patients in the Hemel Hempstread area. The NHS is free at the point of delivery but paid for by the taxpayer. We deserve to be heard!
Name: Brian Kent Address: Bedmond Road Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire Views: I recently spent nearly three weeks in Hemel Hempstead Hospital after a heart attack. Nurses, working unsociable hours and long shifts are expected to pay car parking fees. Now car parking in this hospital is a monumental rip-off, however the issue lies with the faceless, brain-dead morons in the Trust. These are the typical idiots who make descisions on matters they do not clearly understand.
At a recent meeting, one of these idiots suggested it was far easier to get to Watford Hospital than people think!. Yet he admitted he had NEVER been there, has not seen the narrow approach road leading to the football stadium and on to the hospital. Has never set foot inside Watford General. I have. A dirty, disgusting hole that needs pulling down and rebuilding and certainly is far too small to accomodate Hemel Hempstead patients as well as its own.
So, to the faceless morons making these insane descisions on Hemel Hempstead hospital, remember idiots, one day YOU will end up in hospital for one reason or another (probably for a brain transplant) and I hope and pray that you end up in Watford General.
As is typical of the current trend in this country for 'management', especially 'upper management', glossing over a meanials report while on the golf course is not my idea of 'Work'. This is peoples lives you are playing with, it is not a game, its reality. Funny how we know it but the 'muppets' dont isnt it, and how come so may muppets make it to these lofty positions, could it be why this country is in the mess that it is. We need Hemel Hospital, leave it alone.
Name: Claire Corrie Address: Waveney Hemel Hempstead Views: More house building means more people! Is the Health Service going to provide public transport to get local people to and from hospital appointments when they close Hemel? Both my parents, Aunt and siblings have had to utilise Hemel's services and I can certainly say that the level of care received was second to none. Other hospitals that we have had the mis-fortune to visit have come no where near!
Name: Jon Gianni Address: Ravens Lane Berkhamsted Views: I was an in-patient at Hemel Hospital a couple of years ago and I am very grateful for the care that I received. I didn't pay my taxes so that the government could fritter billions of pounds away on bombs. Why can't they spend our money on things that matter to us in our day-to-day lives?

Name: louise j evans Address: elstree road hemel hempstead Views: The services in Hemel Hempstead are poor as it is. Surely our elderley population deserve better?! It would be a pure disgrace to close a ward which is badly needed. Watford and Luton is too far away for patients visitors to travel to. Don't make these patients feel even more isolated, the prospect of being in a local hospital is bad enough!
Name: loz hudson Address: pallas road highfield hemel hempstead Views: we need a hospital in the town, otherwise the nearest is in watford or st albans. how are people supposed to get their when they need treatment? especially disabled and elderly people. its just not fair on them.
Name: Elizabeth Land Address: Longfield Road, Tring Views: With the population increasing why is Hemel Hempstead hospital looking like it is doomed for closure? Especially when Watford hospital is already overloaded. Disgraceful. Fortunately I am in the position of being able to decide between using Hemel Hempstead or Stoke Mandeville - at the moment!! More hospitals are required in the are not less.
Name: Norman Cutting Address: Chestnut Drive BERKHAMSTED Views: I think the Health Service attitude is summed up on the front page of the Summer 2005 PCT newsletter. When asked, the CE of Dacorum PCT (Felicity Cox) said that apart from unplanned and trauma care, the A & E department will continue for both adults a children. Define A & E.
Name: Zoe Griggs Address: Broadfield Road Hemel Hempstead Views: It is truly vital that these wards are kept open and running to the best standards.

Our elderly deserve better. I worry for the elderly partners of those patients who will now have to travel much further to visit their loved ones in hospital.
