HALSEY SCHOOL
OPENING DAY
Established in 1961, Halsey School moved to its permanent site in 1963. It did not officially open until March 1964. It is interesting to note that one of the governors at the time was one W.S. Crook, a man who would become synonymous with the naming of so much of the new town areas and roads. The school was named after the Halsey family of Great Gaddesden, lords of the manor and, at that time, residents of Gaddesden Place. Captain Sir Thomas Halsey was guest of honour at the opening ceremony.
OPENING DAY DISPLAY IN THE GYM
The school amalgamated with Cavendish School about nine years ago and is now the site of recent housing development. The school had begun life sharing with Cavendish, but by the time of the opening of the school itself there were 250 pupils and the headmaster was Mr N. Gibbon and the chairman of the governors was Rev Pibworth who had done so much to help the first residents of Gadebridge settle in as the neighbourhood was built.
