Getting to Know: Grahame Senior
Grahame Senior is honorary president of the Friends of Tring Church Heritage Society, a fundraising organisation committed to the preservation of St Peter and St Paul Church through organising social events and involving the community in its activities. Also a keen historian, Grahame lives in Tring.
What is your favourite food?
My favourite food is fresh fish, freshly caught and freshly cooked in a simple style

Fly fishing / walking in the country

Travelling in the rush hour
Invite five famous people for dinner, past or present - who and why?
Marcus Aurelius, Elizabeth I, William Blake, AP McCoy, Leonard Cohen. In all cases because they have played the hands that life has dealt them differently than might have been expected and with spectacularly effective results

Live each day as fully as possible – Carpe diem.
If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be and why?
The battle of Thermopylae (fought between an alliance of Greek city-states, led by King Leonidas of Sparta, and the Persian Empire of Xerxes I over the course of three days, during the second Persian invasion of Greece 480BC). It was a triumph of strategy over overwhelming brute force with precise and heroic implementation

What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received?
The worst gift I ever gave was a new car I ordered in secret and delivered to my wife as a surprise on her birthday. It was green. The car she’d had for years was red. Unsurprisingly within a month it was changed for a new red car. The moral: if you’re going to risk a surprise gift, do your research really carefully (she hates green!)
